At the heart of our business there are more than 1,000 dedicated employees working in the Group Functions. They work across all brands and are responsible for giving a range of centralised services to the business. We like to think of them as our ‘lynchpins’, making the success of Arcadia possible and our lives easier in the process. Read on for a summary of some of the teams and what they do:
Working in Finance at Arcadia is not just about number crunching; it plays a vital role in the commercial management of our business. Spread throughout our offices in London and Leeds, the finance teams bring budgets, forecasts and trading reports together for Group consolidation as well as having responsibility for all accounting processes, including payroll and accounts payable, for the entire Group. There are also many varied and interesting projects which come with the territory when you have so many brands under one roof. The Finance teams will work closely with Property, E Commerce and all the major departments in the Shared Services Teams, which offers plenty of opportunity for career development in addition to the brand finance roles we offer.
Supporting each of the brands is a Group HR team with specialists covering Resourcing, Reward, Organisational Development and Employee Relations. Securing the best talent and ensuring that we continuously develop and retain the skills to support the business for the future is our utmost priority. Our in-house Talent Team works specifically on maintaining healthy networks across Buying, Merchandising and Design and introducing talented individuals into our business. Our Group HR team also promotes careers from graduate level up, utilising our connections with UK Universities, the Fashion Retail Academy and our new and exciting social networking channels. All of this is supported by the Reward team who ensure that we remain competitive and unique with our blend of benefits and rewards.
We are constantly evolving and expanding overseas, and currently there are in excess of 550 stores, across 37 markets throughout the world. Our International team manages the relationship with our franchise partners abroad, as well as the co-ordination of product and visual merchandising to ensure that our international customers enjoy the same shopping experience as they would in the UK. We are proud and excited to be launching our brands around the globe and have promising expansion plans.
Our talented IT team, based in London and Leeds, provides all the usual support and computer wizardry for the entire company, including technical support and the development and maintenance of software. They also work on some of the most exciting projects which help us as a business to grow for the future. This includes enhancements to our e-commerce environment to ensure we can reach our customer in local languages and currencies across the world and the introduction of a new Point of Sale system in our stores in the UK, Eire and the USA.
E-commerce is an especially fast-paced and rapidly growing element of the Arcadia business. Customers in more than 110 countries are served by a diverse array of some 40 websites in a number of languages and currencies, all of which are managed from Head Office in London. E-commerce business specialists in Arcadia work within dedicated brand teams as well as a central Group function. The in-brand teams focus on trading their digital channels and on the representation of their brand online.
Meanwhile the Group E-commerce team sets the overall strategy, designs and delivers major projects and programmes of change, and shares best practice and offers guidance and support in areas as diverse as user experience design, digital marketing, analytics and customer insight, and international development. Recent Group E-commerce initiatives include the launch of a collect from store service across multiple brands and a wave of m-commerce projects, from mobile-optimised websites through to iPhone, iPad, and Android apps for all of the brands.
PR & EVENTS
The in-house PR team represent and protect the brand image across all of the Arcadia Group portfolio. The team execute strategic PR campaigns for new launches and high profile collaborations, alongside driving stand out press coverage within the UK and international markets across all media platforms.
They are a fast paced dynamic office, who are constantly looking for new and innovative ideas and opportunities to grow the Arcadia Group's presence. Relationships with fashion and interiors press are a key priority and they host a number of brand specific and group press days, throughout the year, to create memorable events that engage with the media. They also produce directional press packs and look books to showcase new collections.
The Press Office is supported by the Marketing Events team who help coordinate all Group wide activity. They create inspiring and original press days and events, as well as supporting corporate fund-raising and staff entertaining opportunities. In addition, they deliver internal communication through our staff magazine and support the Arcadia Group's industry initiatives with external organisations such as the Fashion Retail Academy and the New West End Company.
PROPERTY & STORE DEVELOPMENT
Our Property team is responsible for more than 2,500 stores in the UK, and handles various aspects of the property process including rent negotiation and the acquisition of new store sites. Our Store Development team is responsible for designing and implementing new store concepts for all the brands in the UK and abroad. They also project manage store modernisations and implement the design and vision of new Arcadia stores. Most recently the Store Development team was responsible for designing our new Topshop Topman store in LA, and continue to support our growing UK and international expansion plans.
Our logistics, supplier management and customer care teams ensure our global supply chains function effectively.
This department is one of the key teams in the Group, ensuring our brands’ products are readily available to customers throughout the world. This is no mean feat; the team brings in more than 200 million units from approximately 55 countries around the world using a combination of sea, air and road.
Once these units are in the country, they are sent to one of four distribution centres in the UK where they are rapidly processed by 1,500 core staff and sent to the relevant store using our fleet of vehicles. It doesn’t end there – the logistics team also ensures that some 32 million units reach our 500 international stores as widespread as Russia, Japan and Canada.
The team also coordinates the delivery of more than 8 million eCommerce orders to approximately 123 countries every year.
This department oversees all our supplier processes and procedures, including setting supplier delivery standards and producing supplier handbooks. The team also provides sourcing analyses to the business, monitors infringement of the brands’ trade marks and manages our Fashion Footprint initiatives, including Ethical Trading.
The team has grown significantly over recent years and is made up of around 150 people working seven days a week to provide a customer care service on behalf of all our brands, covering store and internet sales. Each year they respond to customers worldwide, via over two million emails and phone calls, as well as answering messages sent via social media.
AUDIT & LOSS PREVENTION
Based in London, with field based staff across the UK, we provide an audit and loss prevention service to the Group. We support the overall control environment and focus on stock loss, cash loss, fraud, security , and critical business controls. This includes managing the costs associated with all loss prevention and security equipment.
Supporting all of the brands is a Group Purchasing Department for goods not for resale. Within the team are Category specialists covering a wide variety of non fashion Procurement.
Our Print team are responsible for the design, purchase & delivery of all printed material for the Group, including all promotional material. Meanwhile, our Studio & Packaging teams ensure that all garment ticketing and branding conforms with each Brands guidelines.
Based across all London head offices, the Facilities team provide services to all buildings, including building maintenance, cleaning, security, reception, porterage, car fleet, travel, mailrooms and reprographics. They also provide a daily catering service to 3 London based staff restaurants, and 1 staff restaurant in Leeds.
The Facilities team are integral to the running of our buildings, and the busy Facilities Helpdesk receives over 1500 calls and emails each week. They are the first point of contact for all queries relating to the above departments, whether you need a box taking to the post room for shipping or to report a flickering light above your desk. With the upcoming building refurbishment of our London head office, the Facilities team will be managing all challenges that arise with keeping the building running during the works, ensuring that all services remain consistent.
The Arcadia Group Sourcing team, based in London, is a dedicated resource continually supporting the cross brand supplier and manufacturing needs of our exciting fashion business. The team are continually looking to meet new suppliers who are industry clothing specialists with high ethical and manufacturing standards. Any potential supplier should demonstrate a clear understanding of the UK and global fashion markets and have a forward thinking, reactive and innovative approach.
