Timeline
1930
Evans Outsize is founded by Jack Green, a clothing manufacturer. The business is subsequently run by his son-in-law Cyril Spencer as a limited company.
1971
Evans is acquired by Burton Group and becomes part of a public company for the first time.
1972
Its new owner is pleased with developments as the chain opens its 77th store.
1974
Mail order launches and quickly becomes a profitable part of the business.
1978
A new younger customer is targeted as an area for growth.
1983
Lingerie and leisurewear ranges launch. 1988
Evans becomes the UK's market leader in womenswear above size 14 and the Marble Arch flagship opens in London.
1997
The launch of SeVen attracts a more fashion-led younger customer. Evans becomes the first Arcadia brand to have an online sales operation.
1998
The brand reaches 160 stores nationwide. A range called 1647 is created exclusively for the brand by designed Helen Teague and her business partner comedienne Dawn French.
2001,br> Evans launches a nationwide model competition to promote the brand in association with Woman magazine.
2006
The brand unveils a new look retail concept, with updated branding, new materials and fittings that is carried through to all areas of the store including bags, ticketing and in-store marketing.
2007
Model Crystal Renn becomes the new face of Evans in windows, on in-store merchandising and its first ever TV advertising campaign. The brand launches two new collections. Evans Editions is for special occasions and Boudoir introduces sexy lingerie.
