Topman

Topman is the leader on the high street for young men's fashion. It has won numerous awards, worked with leading young British designers and shows its own Topman Design range as part of London Fashion Week. Many of its stores are partnered with sister brand Topshop.

Timeline

1978
Topman launches as a brother to sister brand Topshop. Its launch is prompted by encouraging sales in the young men's department within Burton stores.

1980
Topman becomes an immediate success with profits of more than £1 million.

1983
The brand opens its 52nd store.

1990
Topman increases its formalwear and accessories offer as it strengthens its position as the market leader in young men's high street fashion.

1993
The stores' shopfit is updated to appeal to a younger and more fashion conscious customer.

1996
The Moto Menswear range makes its debut and Moto shoes are introduced.

1998
The refurbishment of Topman at Oxford Street is completed after an 18-month redevelopment programme.

2000
A new management team is put in place under Brand Director David Shepherd.

2001
Topman works with Male Cancer Campaign Everyman for the first time. A new more fashion-led range of footwear launches.

2002
Topman takes to the catwalk for the first time as part of London Fashion Week.

2003
A showcase for young talent, The VOID, launches at the Oxford Circus flagship.

2005
Topman establishes brings together fashion and music with its sponsorship of the NME Awards, support of up-and-coming bands and involvement in music festivals.

2007
The brand's Manchester store wins the Drapers Award for best new store. The Topman brand extends its reach internationally with openings in Russia, Japan and Sweden. The brand's latest gigastore opens in Cardiff in conjunction with Topshop.
