IT
General overviewThe Arcadia IT department, split between our Leeds and London head offices, is a centralised function providing IT services to the whole of the Arcadia Group, developing and operating the systems for the stores and Head Office and includes a data centre, help desk, application management and application development teams.
The majority of our core systems, such as our supply chain management systems, are bespoke. We deploy the same systems across all of the brands with parameters that, where possible, can be defined according to the needs of a particular brand.
We outsource the support, maintenance and application development of four retail systems to IBM. The Wide Area Network infrastructure is managed and supported by BT.

ProfileMatt Dalton
Business Systems Analyst
"My role as a business systems analyst changes every day, so it's difficult to pin down what a typical day is. It's very much dependent upon what stage the project that I'm working on is at. I could be holding workshops with the business to drive out system requirements, creating documentation and specifications for new systems or testing the systems and working on implementation.
The ability to actively listen and interpret are what I see as crucial to being a business systems analyst. Ideally I operate as a translator between what the business wants from a system, and how we, as an IT department, are actually going to produce it. So it's important that everybody involved shares a common understanding of what we are trying to achieve.
The way that a Business Systems Analyst is used in Arcadia Systems means that you have the opportunity to be a part of a system project from conception right the way through analysis, design, testing, implementation and then into a support capacity. It's very satisfying to see a system you were involved with actually working in a live environment and delivering a benefit.
I joined Arcadia as a Junior Business Systems Analyst and have now progressed to a Business Systems Analyst (dropping the Junior tag!) My career path is very well defined; my next goals are to become a Senior Business Analyst and then a Project Manager. The culture here is excellent, everyone I work with is really helpful and supportive and you feel like you're part of a team."
