Buying

General overview

Our Buyers and their teams focus on developing and delivering the product ranges, driving profits, and influencing the brand's product strategy. They concentrate on anticipating and meeting the needs of the customers and developing strong links with our suppliers. Working closely with Merchandising they balance trading and planning to create appropriate new and exciting ranges in our stores.

Buyers specifically meet the target customer requirements by working alongside designers to capture the latest trends, and with technologists to ensure that fabric and fit satisfies our quality standards.

Profile

Victoria Derham
Senior Buyer, Evans

"I joined Arcadia ten years ago in 1997, starting as a Buyer's Administration Assistant (BAA) in Dorothy Perkins on the knitwear department and have worked my way up. I have had experience in many areas including tailoring, formal tops, and dresses but found my passion when I moved onto the accessories department. I love the variation in product and the challenge in sourcing it - what girl doesn't love buying bags! I am now the Accessories Buyer at Evans and continue to love what I do.

No day at Evans is ever the same. The pace is fast and furious and always exciting. If you are not developing product or negotiating prices with suppliers then you are likely to be in fit meetings or range building meetings, or travelling to Europe or Hong Kong.

The fact that I have worked at Arcadia for ten years tells you how much I love the company. It's challenging, pressured, exciting and motivating but most of all it is supportive, which is why I am still here."
