Profile
Antonia Gladwin
Acquisitions and Disposals Manager
"My role includes receiving details on potential new store properties from agents, negotiating on rents and deals, liaising with the Store Planning Team on any new acquisitions, taking these opportunities to the appropriate brand(s), preparing board papers for sign off, negotiating legal documents with lawyers, liaising with Store Development to get a store opened, and going on site visits to view developments/towns.
One day I can be going to Scotland for a trip to view a development site, the next I can be talking to a brand about a new unit somewhere or negotiating with a landlord on the legals of a current deal and then to an out-of-town park to look at a unit for Outfit.
You need to be organised to do this job, have attention to detail, be able to negotiate and handle people well, have a good knowledge of the property market, the law surrounding landlords and tenants and valuation.
I started my career as a retail agency surveyor in small practice based in London. Whilst doing so I went back part time to University in London and completed my Post Grad diploma in Estate Management and then took my APC (Assessment for Professional Competence) and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor. I then became acquisitions manager at Fat Face before being recruited to Arcadia in September 2006.
Arcadia is a fantastic place to work in terms of property because of the size of our property portfolio and the number of brands. The nature of acquisitions means deals can vary from a 3,000sq ft Wallis to a 40,000sq ft Topshop to a 12,500sq ft Outfit on a retail park. It can also involve putting several brands into one scheme. It's also great to work somewhere that is very well known in the market place and with such strong and well-recognised retail brands."
