We are pleased to report that our Green Champions initiative was launched in June 2011 at our head offices, coordinated by the FFAP. Fifty-five employees across Arcadia volunteered to represent their business area. Their role is to give advice to colleagues on how we can each reduce our environmental impacts as well as to feed back to the Fashion Footprint team on how we can improve.

The champions are ideally placed to monitor diverse areas of the business, leading by example to ensure that good environmental practices are in place. Their initial focus is on three key initiatives:

  1. Reduction of paper usage;
  2. Saving energy; and
  3. Improving recycling.

To coincide with the arrival of our Green Champions, we also launched a new poster campaign in our head offices to raise awareness about recycling.

Creating a Green Champions bulletin page on our intranet has promoted lively discussion and the speedy sharing of ideas.

Here are just some of the comments gathered as part of the nomination process:

“We’ve got a very committed and enthusiastic team of people who are keen to make a difference”

“We don’t want our Green Champions to be seen as the police - people want to feel proud about where they work”

We intend to focus on maintaining the Champions’ momentum in the coming year through forums, initiatives and competitions.
