Young Danish Designer Joins the Lens Area at Topman
Young Dane Kasper Harup-Hansen has been chosen to design an AW08 collection for Topman’s Lens area this September. Kasper will join past successes Carolyn Massey, Dexter Wong, Mjolk, and Another Boy, all of who have been hand selected by Gordon Richardson (Design Director, Topman) and Matthew Murphy (B Store, Founder). All five designers will be available from the Lens area in Topman Oxford Circus, La Foret (Japan) and online as well as making their debut in New York.
“I have admired Kasper’s use of Japanese fashion combined with Copenhagen street inspiration. He uses twisted well known classics, with special processing and exquisite detailing. We feel his designs will enhance an already successful Lens area” Gordon Richardson (Design Director, Topman).
Kasper Harup - Hansen's collection for Lens is about volume, craftsmanship, size, and silhouettes. Cotton over sized shirts are teamed with cropped waistcoats, layered with a bomber jacket, and completed with a slim cut trouser. An assortment of wools, leathers and cottons make the collection diverse in texture as well as proportions.
Dexter Wong a St Martins college design graduate has created a range inspired by industrial revolution work-wear. The collection named ‘The Railway Children’ contains fabrics that are a mix of age and pristine, wools are boiled and washed for ease and comfort, with a colour palette of tonal greys this collection is both fresh and wearable.
Carolyn Massey has returned to Lens after a sell out season in SS08, this time Massey, a detail obsessive, focuses upon the sartorial code of ‘what it is to be a gentleman’. The collection strives to bring lost shapes such as the cape and detailing such as the bib front shirt back to contemporary menswear. This is a bid to hang on to ideas of tradition and an English sense of what is ‘proper’ whilst still pushing the boundaries of silhouette and line.
Mjolk’s second season for Lens is a strong capsule collection that reinforces his need for artisan craftsmanship and premium fabrics. The bold colour palette complements the attention to detail; Mjolk has created a simple and tailored aesthetic that feels effortlessly cool, team a checked belted jacket with a clashing check shirt and skinny wool trousers to create the true Mjolk aesthetic.
Another Boy is the diffusion line from a last years success story Material Boy. Mic Eaton the Australian designer behind both Material Boy and Another Boy has designed collection for Lens that focuses on print and colour; cropped jumpers and bold statement hoodies styled with oversized t’s makes this a fresh and dynamic second season from Eaton.
