Kate Moss Topshop Autumn Winter 09

In their eleventh collaboration, Kate Moss and Topshop make a move away from previous signature playful designs and present an eclectic collection of vintage glamour and smart, chic pieces for a more grown-up Autumn Winter 09.

Personifying the rock'n'roll spirit of Kate's dressing, the collection is heavily inspired by the 60s, 70s and 80s, with a distinct groupie feel. A series of blouses and dresses in chiffon are voluminous with billowing sleeves and pointed collars or smock style.

Synonymous now with Kate's designs, strong prints appear throughout. Vivid butterflies in bright green and orange flutter across a chiffon tunic dress, red and navy pansies stand out against the striped background of a crepe boat neck dress and intarsia knit hearts are bold on a knitted cardigan, dress and matching scarf. Muted prints are mixed in for a more antique appearance; a delicate feather print in deep amethyst and midnight blue looks faded on a silk bolero, and a washed-out floral design in pistachio, lemon and dusky pink on a tea dress is taken from a vintage fan found at a Tokyo market.

Knitwear is looks either punky or smart and ladylike. Grungy oversized ladder weave jumpers and scarves in grey, coral and off white exude glam rock whilst a neat box-shaped fluffy grey cardigan jacket and a grey ribbed cowl neck jumper dress when worn with a wide belt and over-the-knee boots hark back to the swinging 60s.

As contrast to the oversized and flowing pieces of the collection, exquisitely tailored jackets, skirts and trousers portray the mature side of Kate's wardrobe. A slim-fitting black tux has grosgrain lapels and longer length sleeves for a more sleek and sexy finish for evening. The same shape jacket appears in grey pin stripe with matching skirt, perfect for daytime.

Leather and suede feature heavily. Grey suede culottes with a delicate cut-out detail around the pockets and a black suede halterneck belted playsuit are tough, yet feminine, and the navy blue floor length version of the ‘Starsky' leather jacket from Spring/Summer 07 is the stand out piece of the season.

Reminiscent of the Dynasty era of the 1980s, flamboyant trophy jackets are key to this collection. Gold sequins create the face of a leopard on the back of a jacket, whilst large diamante gems add sparkle to another. A slinky black jersey mini dress has silver studded emphasised shoulders, radiating power dressing and two oversized faux fur coats named ‘Crystal' and ‘Groupie' are the ultimate in high voltage 80s glamour.

Consistent of all Kate's collections, both daywear and eveningwear are heavily embellished. Simple jersey tops are given a biker chick finish whether adorned with studs, beads or chain details, whilst eveningwear has a antique dressing-up box feel. Tarnished gold sequins are scattered over a maxi dress, waistcoat, bolero and playsuit, whilst ruched chiffon dresses in muted grey and blue are delicately embellished with silver beads.
