The health and safety of our customers, employees, and contractors is very important and we are committed to maintaining safe stores, offices and distribution centres.
The total number of accidents in the workplace reduced by 10% in the most recent trading year. Over the past 12 months, we have undertaken a comprehensive review of our entire Health and Safety process, procedures and guidance documents to ensure continued improvement and alignment with best-practice. This will be completed in 2019.
2019 will also see the implementation of our new group-wide Health and Safety Committee. This group is designed to improve health and safety management, consultation and the communication process, whilst also encouraging the adoption of best-practice across all functions. The committee will be chaired by a permanent member of the Board of Directors.
We continue to roll out our safety training programme. Courses are delivered through traditional tutor-led classes, E-learning and even conference calls, depending on the needs of different roles within the business.
We distribute regular newsletters across the Group to share relevant news, training updates, and health & safety checklists and to issue advice on high-risk issues. Focus topics have included workplace transport, slips and falls and fire safety.
For the third consecutive year, our Leeds office received an International Safety Award (with Merit) from the British Safety Council. These awards recognise our commitment to keeping our workplaces healthy and safe.
