We continue to take part in dialogue with industry partners to ensure that our animal welfare policy is both progressive and comprehensive.
All of our suppliers are required to sign up to the Animal Welfare Declaration section of our Code of Conduct. Our policy states that Arcadia Group suppliers must adhere to a set of standards relating to the treatment, handling and care of all animals.
Mohair: Having reviewed evidence uncovered by animal-rights activists concerning the treatment of goats on South-African mohair farms, and after productive discussions with stakeholders, we decided to ban the use of mohair. In March 2018, Arcadia became the first UK retailer to stop using and selling Mohair.
TOPSHOP’s Beauty Products: Leaping Bunny’s Cruelty Free standard. This internationally-recognised certification provides assurance that no animal testing has taken place at any stage of the products’ development.
Cruelty Free International Seminar: Cruelty Free International at our Head Office in London, which was attended by over fifty members of our product teams.
Our animal welfare policy is available here.
We work closely with selected suppliers to make sure that our vegan items are free from animal products. We assess materials and manufacturing techniques against a set of best-practice criteria, which are reviewed regularly. Special attention is paid to glues and adhesives, finishing sprays, dyes and chemical treatments used in the production process.
Where possible, we carry out factory visits to make sure suppliers understand our requirements. Transparency is essential and we always ask suppliers to provide evidence to verify the provenance of materials. The “PETA Approved Vegan” logo appears on our vegan products.
